Shower door repair and replacement in Lubbock
A lot of shower door problems are hardware, not glass. Before you replace the whole door, check whether a hinge, seal, sweep, or roller is the actual issue.
Common problems and what usually fixes them
| Problem | Likely cause | Usual fix |
|---|---|---|
| Water on the floor at the bottom of the door | Worn or missing bottom sweep | Replace the sweep (a common, low-cost part) |
| Leak along the side of the door | Worn vertical seal or a door that's out of alignment | New seal, hinge adjustment |
| Frameless door sags or hits the curb | Loose or worn hinges | Tighten, adjust, or replace hinges |
| Sliding door drags, jumps the track | Worn rollers, scale in the track | New rollers, clean or replace track |
| Caulk is black, cracked, or peeling | Age and moisture | Remove and re-caulk |
| Cracked or chipped glass | Impact or stress | Replace the panel; cracked tempered glass is not repairable |
Repair or replace?
Angi's guidance is a simple rule of thumb: if a repair would cost about half of what a new door costs, replacing usually makes more sense (Angi). Angi's frameless guide lists minor repairs such as fixing leaks, replacing hardware, or sealing chips at roughly $50 to $300 nationally (Angi). Replacement tends to win when:
- the glass is cracked or chipped,
- parts for an older door aren't made anymore,
- the frame is corroded or etched from years of hard water, or
- you're switching styles anyway, for example a tub slider to a frameless panel.
Replacing just the door
You don't have to redo the whole shower to get a new door. Most door-only replacements take a pro a few hours, according to Angi, longer if an old enclosure has to come out first. The installer will measure the opening, check that walls are plumb, and tell you whether your existing curb or tub ledge works with the style you want.
Before you call
- Note the door type (framed, frameless, sliding) and roughly how old it is.
- Take a phone photo of the hinges or rollers and any brand stamp on the hardware.
- Measure the opening width at the bottom, middle, and top. If the numbers differ, mention it.
Then send a quote request and choose "Repair" or "Replace an existing door." See also: keeping glass clear in hard water and the price guide.
