What pushes the price up or down

  • Style. Framed is cheapest, frameless is most expensive. See framed vs frameless vs sliding.
  • Size and layout. A standard single door costs less than a door plus fixed panel, a neo-angle corner, or a full custom enclosure.
  • Glass. Thicker glass, low-iron (extra clear) glass, frosted or patterned glass, and protective coatings all add cost.
  • Hardware finish. Matte black, brushed brass, and other premium finishes cost more than chrome.
  • Old door removal. Pulling out an old framed door and cleaning up the old caulk and screw holes takes time.
  • Out-of-square openings. Walls that aren't plumb may need custom-cut glass.

How to compare quotes

  1. Make sure each quote names the glass thickness, hardware finish, and whether it's framed, semi-frameless, or frameless.
  2. Ask whether removal and disposal of the old door are included.
  3. Ask what the workmanship warranty covers and for how long, separate from the manufacturer's glass and hardware warranty.
  4. Ask about lead time. Custom-cut glass is usually ordered after the measure.
  5. Ask whether a protective glass coating is included or extra. With Lubbock's hard water, it's worth knowing (why).
